In 1847 Maria Mitchell discovered comet 1847 VI renamed “Miss Mitchell’s Comet!” Born in 1818, she is known as America’s first professional female astronomer & founded the Association for the Advancement of Women!
Annie Smith Peck born in 1850 shocked the world by climbing mountains in PANTS! A courageous mountaineer & explorer she is honored by the renaming of the northern peak of Huascarán the Cumbre Aña Peck!
Daphne Sheldrick, born in 1934 in Kenya, was the first person to discover the right mixture of formula for orphaned baby elephants! She was a bright & glamorous soul who changed the fate of elephants & founded the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust!
Sangduen “Lek” Chailert is the founder of the Elephant Nature Park in Northern Thailand! Born in 1961 Chailert began advocating for elephants as a child, after hearing the cries of a wounded elephant being forced to haul logs in the jungle. Since 1966 she has rescued over 200 distressed Asian elephants!
